Bilbao Upgrades Its Kobetamendi Motorhome Area, Launching the Modern Bilbao Caravan Park

Bilbao is embracing motorhome tourism with the transformation of the Kobetamendi area into the new Bilbao Caravan Park—a modern, fully equipped space that offers all the necessary services for those traveling by motorhome or campervan.

The Bilbao City Council has completed a full renovation of the motorhome area located on Mount Kobetamendi, now renamed Bilbao Caravan Park. This upgrade strengthens the city's position as one of the best-prepared destinations in northern Spain for vanlife and itinerant tourism.

A Motorhome Area in Bilbao with Full Services

The new facility features a central infrastructure providing access to all essential services for motorhomes. In addition, the former site has been converted into a leisure and rest area for travelers.

Bilbao Caravan Park offers 72 pitches, each equipped with electrical hookups and drinking water connections. It is located in a privileged spot—Mount Kobeta (Kobeta 31)—which offers stunning panoramic views of Bilbao. The area is well connected via public transport, allowing easy access to the city center without needing to move your vehicle.

A Commitment to Sustainable Motorhome Tourism

With this renovation, Bilbao reaffirms its commitment to a sustainable and high-quality tourism model, tailored to the needs of the growing number of people traveling in motorhomes or campervans.

In 2024 alone, a total of 19,848 vehicles and 44,977 people used this motorhome service area. The busiest months were May, with 4,805 users, and August, with 6,365. So far in 2025 (January to May), 6,525 vehicles and 14,194 people have already been recorded.

Visitors from Across Europe and Spain

The profile of Bilbao Caravan Park visitors is diverse and multicultural. Among European travelers, Germany, France, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom stand out, with visitors also coming from Belgium, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, and Finland.

In April 2025 alone, the area welcomed 1,224 Germans, 734 French, 610 Dutch, and 224 British travelers, consolidating Bilbao’s position as one of the most attractive destinations in northern Spain for European camper tourists.

Domestically, the site also receives high traffic. In the first five months of 2025, 210 vehicles from the Basque Country and 99 from Navarre used the facilities. Motorhomes from Catalonia, Asturias, the Balearic Islands, Madrid, the Valencian Community, and Andalusia were also well represented.

The wide variety of visitors—from both Spain and abroad—shows that Bilbao Caravan Park is a must-visit stop for anyone traveling by motorhome through the Basque Country. Its strategic location, breathtaking views, great connectivity, and full range of services make it an ideal stop, whether for a longer stay or a quick rest along the way.
